Melanin determines the colour of our skin. Certain things can damage the cell structure of our skin and affect the production of Melanin. Some of these are exposure to UV light, hormonal imbalances or general declines in our health.
Pigmentation or discolouration areas on our skin most often display as darker areas and are a clear indication of Melanin level changes.
The most common descriptor of pigmentation is freckles. Freckles are a part of life growing up in a place like Australia where time spent outdoors enjoying the sun is something we all enjoy. Once we become older, we have regrets about our sun exposure and the tell-tale signs on our face.
Pigmentation can also display in several other ways including larger sunspots, melasma and birthmarks.
